You have seen Macedonia on CNN,You've se BBC, Sky News and other services.
Bordering Northern Greece, Macedonia is a breathtakingly beautiful country of mountains and lakes. Ancient churches, mosques and other painstakingly preserved structures abound; Macedonia is a living history book reflecting Roman, Turkish, Slavic, and other influences comprising this multi cultural society. Roman ruins, ancient walled fortresses, Turkish communal bath houses, ancient mosques, cave churches and old dwellings associated with the Eastern Orthodox Church are accessible to the visitor; the Cyrillic alphabet used by Russia, Macedonia and others was created in this region.
The choice of activities is unending. Music festivals and folk dance festivals are offered at Ohrid and other cities. Restaurants are plentiful; many with live music. Macedonian food is delicious; service is excellent and the wine is superb! Swimming, boating, sightseeing, people watching, sun bathing, wine tasting, hiking, exploring, fishing, etc. etc.; there will always be more to do then time permits.
Summers are for the people and all walk the streets of the "Korzo" nightly. Locals are friendly with English widely understood. If you like, take a walk by the lake or up the narrow cobblestone streets of Ohrid or even Skopje at 3AM, no problem for the area is very safe; try that in New York, Chicago
